Apple MacBookThe MacBook line of laptops have been the preferred choice for many students in GSIS over the years. Chromebooks (Update May 2023: No longer recommended)Chromebooks are cloud based devices, which means that they are designed to be online most of the time. They also have most of the data stored in the cloud, not on the device. You really need to be an avid user of Google Drive and Google Chrome for this device to work for you. It has an extremely fast start up time of 5-8 seconds. These devices are currently the device of choice in the US education market.
*UPDATE: In May 2016 Google announced that Chromebooks would now be capable of running running all android apps from the play store. This will mean the 1.6 million apps will now work on a Chromebook.

Windows LaptopsWindows laptops are the most plentiful as most manufacturers produce them. As a result you can purchase very cheap low-end laptops, as well as high-specification laptops that come with a heavy price tag. Now with the advent of Windows 10, the OS should be lighter and more up to date.
